Dani McQueen built her business, Old Man Farms, with her daughter on her back. Literally! Her CBD Subscription Boxes were nominated as one of the best new CBD products in 2019, however her story is really about advocacy and healing.Born with an autoimmune disorder that required narcotics to control the pain, Dani did not consider medicinal cannabis until her daughter was born with the same condition. Although Dani never had any intention of starting a cannabis company, she did enjoy being a lady who made sweets to help and heal. During the podcast interview Dani learned she had won two awards at NECANN right here in Boston, and we are so happy to be celebrating her success. Although Dani encountered many obstacles on the road to healing herself and her daughter, she is here today to share her strong and proud mama story of giving and being given many gifts along the way of finding a way to heal with cannabis. Now she is on a mission to help. Dani McQueen is the force behind Old Man Farms and Old Man Goodies in Maine, and on today’s show she shares a story of grit, persistence and purpose, and if you listen to the end you can find out who the old man is. Meagan Lynn Pilawski is a member of the inaugural class at the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy on her way to earning a Master of Science (MS) in Medical Cannabis Science and Therapeutics from her home in Florida.Although not a career path she had envisioned when she was an oncology and palliative care nurse, it’s a pivot that now seems predestined. In 2014, just three months after giving birth to her son, she was diagnosed with MS. By the time she was 26 years old she was on thirteen medications and felt that MS had gotten the better of her. Then, despite her best efforts, in 2018 Meagan’s nursing career abruptly ended. But a new journey began. On this episode Meagan shares with Joyce and Dave her story of transformation and healing, and how it feels to be a pioneer in the world of treating cannabis as a pharmaceutical. And, Meagan explains why her son knows that cannabis is mommy’s “stinky medicine”, what her big idea about Delta 8 and women’s health is, and Joyce shares her favorite thing this week, The Buddy by Cool Buddy Party.Topics DiscussedWelcome [1:25]Bekah Hess Intro and She is Cool! Valentia Valentine is a highly successful and accomplished professional in Carmel, California. She began her career in the commercial real estate industry where she served businesses throughout the Central Valley for over 25 years. But she speaks with The Canna Mom Show as the founder of Synchronicity Holistic, a state-of-the-art cannabis wellness center dedicated to patient care for both the adult and medical use. Her cannabis journey began in 1989, after suffering from symptoms that her doctor first thought could be a brain tumor, but turned out to be Multiple Sclerosis. That diagnoses forever changed her life. It was a devastating moment for a mother and career professional, but Valentia refused to be a victim of the disabling disease and began to learn as much as she could about MS. From treatments to protocols; from traditional Western medicine to Chinese herbal medicines, Eastern philosophies as well as mind and body practices. As a result of her studies she became a self-taught expert and holistic health advocate. Her efforts focused on ways to minimize MS symptoms.Although she had learned a great deal about traditional Eastern and Western medical treatments, she describes her experience with medical cannabis as nothing short of remarkable. The results were significant. Valentia had less pain. Her inflammation was more manageable. She slept. But most excitingly her mobility was significantly improved. Valentia Valentine’s success has always come by helping others, and she has been focused on changing the public perception of medical cannabis. She has also spent a lifetime giving back and has become synonymous with philanthropy on the Monterey Peninsula. When not saving the world or running her businesses, Valentia is enjoying life with her large and wonderful family. Johanna Nuding’s grandmother is not only named Joyce, but also shares the same birthday as The Canna Mom Joyce! A strange little coincidence. Johanna has a cannabis story that spans continents, beginning in her home state of Texas where she worked in sales on a prominent sports network, to NY for a radio apprenticeship, then back to Texas to work in real estate development. But then, just like a movie, she gave it all up in 2012 and had a life adventure in Italy. When she flew back to America Johanna headed out to California where she started her podcast, Casually Baked, and invested in her passion of helping people get paid for being themselves and educating others as a canna Sherpa.Johanna is also Joyce’s podcast idol. When Joyce was just starting out she discovered Casually Baked and was inspired that Johanna wasn’t a dude in the basement smoking a blunt. It was inspirational! Sharon Grimes of Accounting4Buds speaks with Joyce and Amie from her home in Vermont, Amie’s happy place. Sharon learned about the cannabis industry from its numbers, literally. After working for almost ten years in the non-profit sector she pivoted into manufacturing where she really learned about accounting. In 2015 she stumbled into cannabis because CPA’s are required to keep learning. The continuing education credits she pursued allowed her to invest her time and intelligence in learning about the specificity of taxation in the cannabis industry, and we are glad she did. Today’s conversation explains the complications of 280E, how to allocate cost of goods sold, and why CPA’s are still not that interested in cannabis accounting.
